knife law in california?
i read the california knife law but im having a small problem understanding it it says that u cant carry a knife that is ready to be used as a stabbing weapon and u cant carry a weapon that can b attached on the belt.ok heres my problem i have a folding blade knife that is legal by california standards i guess and my mother bought it for me last christmas and it comes with a sheath that can be attached to the belt but the knife must be folded to be put in the sheath so is this legal or not since the knife is folded and is not readly to be used as a stabbing weapon since it has to be took out of the sheath and unfolded to be used so is this legal or not?
There are a few state laws that deal with knives in California. Penal Code sections 171b, 171.5, 653k and 12020 all talk about knives and are worth knowing if you’re concerned.
I’m not sure where you got the idea that you can’t carry a knife attached to a belt. There is no state law that prohibits that.
Assuming you have provided an accurate assessment and description of your knife, I’m unaware of any state law that would make it illegal to carry (with the exceptions I’ve noted above). That does not mean there might not be a city/county ordinance where you live about knives. It’s also possible there’s some obscure state law I don’t know about but I think it’s fairly unlikely you’ll run afoul of them if you’re just a “normal joe” who carries a knife during his day to day business.
