Chefs Knives Sets

What brand/type of knives do the participant on Top Chef use?
All the chefs on Top Chef have a good set of knives (which they “pack your knives and go” when they’re kicked off). Does anyone know which brand of knives they use, and which types? I know they are expensive — what is the typical price range for a set of knives like this? $5,000?

They use a lot more than just Globals and even though they’re better knives than average western kitchen knife, Globals fall behind many of the knives used on that show. That is based on my personal experience with Gobals and around 30 high end Japanese kitchen knives.
I’ve seen several popular and very high end Japanese kitchen knives on the show. Whatever I know with 100% certainty:
Misono, Nenohi Nenox, Susin, Kikuchi, Mac, Glestain.
As for the price, it’s very unlikely that set of Globals or macs will run you 5000$, unless you pick up half a dozen copies for each knife. However, if you got with Nenox, then it’s real easy to spend few K on those.
I personally think their price isn’t justified, based on their performance, but on the other hand, they’re very popular because or iron chefs… Morimoto has custom made nenoxes, so now every other chef and his apprentice feel they have to get one.
That’s for the brands.
As for the types, obviously chef’s knife with its Japanese equivalent “Gyuto” is pretty much a must.
I’ve seen quite a few deba knives as well.
A few yanagibas (sushi knife) and sujihikis(slicer, fat cleaning form meat)…
Paring knives also very frequent. Depending on the chef western or japanese boning knives.
